If you would like your child to tryout for the South Valley Makos Swim Club, please follow the below process:

 

Bronze Group

Recommended Ages:

Minimum age of 4 

Requirements:

Must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted freestyle and backstroke in deep water. Not a “learn-to-swim” program. 

Description:

Workouts consist of 100% stroke instruction. Focus is on proper freestyle breathing as well as introduction to all 4 strokes. Intro to diving and turns. 

Goal:

Learn legal starts, turns, finishes, and exposure to all 4 strokes and IM. 

Tight streamlines off walls with dolphin kicks for fly/back/free

Compete in meets

Listen and be attentive to coaches 

Practice Times:

M-F 4:15-5pm

Silver Group

Recommended Ages:

6 and over, depending on skill 

Requirements:

Must be able to swim 3-4 strokes legally, with legal starts and basic flip turn. 

Description:

Extensive stroke mechanics work with approximately 75% of the group direct lap by lap stroke instruction, plus  intro to the clock. Continued work on starts and turns. 

Goal:

Legal strokes, starts, and turns. 

Practice Times:

M-F 4:15-5:15pm

Gold 1  Group

Recommended Ages:

8 and over; depending on skill

Requirements:

Ability to swim all four strokes legally, and complete a legal 100 yd IM. Must also have a legal freestyle flip turn, legal open turns, and racing start.

 

5 x 100 Freestyle @ 1:50

5 x 100 IM @ 2:15

Description:

Extensive stroke drill work and technique development. Start and turn refinement, and transition turns for the 100 IM. Introduction to some conditioning work and the pace clock. 

Goal:

More efficient strokes, conditioning, and race techniques.

Practice Times:

M-Th 5-6:30

F 5-6:15

Description:

Increase focus on conditioning work, focus on the pace clock, as well as continued stroke refinement with stroke drill work and technique development. Additional focus on starts and turns, and transition turns for the IM.  

Goal:

More efficient strokes, conditioning, and race techniques. Regular attendance at pratices and swim meets. Junior Olympic times in multiple events. 

Practice Times:

M-Th 5-6:45pm, F 5-6:15pm

Senior 1 Group

Recommended Ages:

13 and older, depending on skill and with coach approval

Requirements:

Multiple Junior Olympic time standards and/or Coach Approval Required.

10 x 100 IM @ 1:45

Description:

Increasing focus on conditioning and speed work. Strokes, starts and turns drills are incorporated into swimming sets during practice. Continued development of improved starts, turns, including transition turns from back to breast, and underwater swimming off of walls.

This program is designed to help the transition to a more Senior level.

Goal:

Stronger conditioning, improved stroke technique; Age Group Championships qualification in multiple events.

M-F swim 4:15-6pm @ Live Oak 

M-W-F swim 6:15-7:45am @ AC

T-Th weights 6:15-7:30am @ MH Athletic Center (extra/optional) 

Sat swim 7:15-8:45am @ AC

Senior 2 Group

Recommended Ages:

13 and older, skill dependent and with coach approval 

Requirements:

This group is for swimmers who are serious about the sport and want to practice at least five times a week.Multiple Age Group Championships or Far Western times.  Intense conditioning training including: strokes, starts, and turns refinement. 

 

10X100 Free @ 1:20

10x 100IM @ 1:30

Description:

Increased conditioning workouts, with continued stroke drill work while incorporating this into sets. Continued focus on underwaters, starts, all turn types, and speed work. 

Goal:

Junior Olympic Championships and Far Western qualifications in multiple events. Optimized strong and efficient strokes, turns, starts, and high levels of endurance. 

 

Additional Junior/Senior Champs, Sectionals, Futures and Junior National Championship and Senior National/Olympic Trial qualifications.

M-W-F swim 6:15-7:45am @ AC
